Alta Maremma

a territory to discover

Nestled in the metalliferous hills lapped by the scents of the sea, the Hotel Terme di Venturina is the starting point for an unforgettable journey through the history, art and natural charm of the most authentic area of Tuscany.

There are endless routes to discover the uniqueness of this area. It is easy to be charmed by the breathtaking views and sunsets that fall into the waters of the Etruscan Coast. It is gratifying to discover and linger to contemplate the ancient ruins overlooking the Gulf of Baratti. And then, it is almost mandatory to visit Populonia, built on top of a hill overlooking the sea, as well as a magnificent example of Etruscan coastal cities. The numerous archaeological and naturalistic areas (Rimigliano and Sterpaia) of the Val di Cornia Parks are fascinating. The coast, outlined by wide sandy beaches and picturesque bays, is bathed by crystal clear waters.

When you reach Alta Maremma, it is worth delving even further inland to discover treasures and surprises. This is where you can explore a territory rich in charm, which boasts a vast archaeological, architectural heritage, and also one of food and wine. Maremma, in fact, is an ancient land, famous for its flavors and its products. Riding through it, it is easy to be entranced by the colors of nature dotted with vineyards, olive groves and also various organic crops.

SEA

The coast from San Vincenzo to Follonica offers wide sandy beaches, rocky coves and crystal clear waters. Kilometers of free stretches of sand are complemented by well-equipped bathing establishments. To the west is the beautiful Gulf of Baratti, with calm sea in the days of Scirocco; the wilder east coast is sheltered from the Mistral.

The Rimigliano Natural Park’s wide sandy beach stretches for six kilometers along the coast between San Vincenzo and Piombino. It is characterized by a thick and fragrant Mediterranean scrub that grows in an exceptional variety of species, colors and shapes.

The Sterpaia Coastal Park, about 296 hectares of beach, dunes and dense vegetation, stretches between Piombino and Follonica. This Mediterranean scrub smells of rosemary, pine and herbs. Fine white sand slopes gently toward some of the clearest waters in the region.
